Short post today, as I’ve been busy lately with things such as professional development, visting family who came from out of country, and so on.
I have had a tendency to overly worry myself about the future, one symptom of which is my thorough planning. In more recent times, I have learned and continue to learn to relax this. Fundamentally, you can only plan for a certain range of futures and the actions you need to take that are good for one are generally good for all. You do not need to put all your eggs in one basket. This attitude has and is allowing me to live more in the present than I historically was able to. Of course, there will always be things to worry about if you look for them. But if your fundamentals are there in what you choose to do and you are lucky enough to live in a first world country, you’ll be fine.
It also helps to take a step back to evaluate where you are relative to where you wanted to be in the past, not where you want to be currently. While it is easy to get stuck in a loop of things to come and when they will happen, what is the point? They will happen. Whenever I find myself spiraling into the future, I have got in the habit of anchoring in the present. Seems too easy? It is. Not sure why I didn’t find this sooner. Turns out, ongoing therapy helps.
In other words, I saw the northern lights on my last drive home from work out in the country. The sky is clear today. Maybe I will be so blessed again tonight, that was the best night sky I ever saw.
